Hello!

I’m Ema. I’m a Junior Economics major at Whitman College, studying abroad in Switzerland and Greece from January through May of 2018. The program I’m participating in is called “SIT Switzerland: Banking, Finance, & Social Responsibility” and focuses on international development, sustainable finance on a global scale, and macroeconomic policies through a social justice lens. Throughout this semester, I’ll be in seminars, going on various excursions, and interning with a financial institution, intergovernmental organization, or NGO in the Geneva area. I’m excited to learn all that I can from these structured experiences, as well as throughout my travels in general.

This blog is intended to record the highlights, challenges, and more ridiculous moments I’ll certainly encounter throughout these months, as well as to fulfill my Gilman Scholarship Follow-on Service Project requirement to provide insight and advice on surviving in one of the most expensive countries in the world on a budget. My aim is to write in an honest, thoughtful, and engaging way which provides useful information as well as documents my personal experiences.

Thanks 🙂
