GLEASON BAUER is a Los Angeles based, multi-award-winning theatre maker known for adapting, devising, and directing visually lush work that “clings to memory far into the future.” Awarded the True West Award by the Denver Theatre Center, her work has been called “mesmerizing”, “haunting”, “both sacred and profane”, “viscerally felt” and “ambitious.”

As a certified Moment Work teacher, mindfulness instructor, and anti-racism educator, GLEASON is dedicated to the creation of intentional spaces for transformative, collaborative, and artistic process. She specializes in devising, adaptation and ensemble physical theatre, and has facilitated the creation and development of multiple original works.

Co-founding the multi-award-winning Zoo District in 1997, she led the company in the development of many commissioned and original works including; [home] a piece that received an exceptional five LA Weekly nominations including for Best New Play.  Gleason took home two of these awards for Best Costume and Best Production Design. More recently, GLEASON was named the Associate Artistic Director of square product theatre, a company with whom she has collaborated for the past ten years. Her adaptation of the novel Slab by Selah Saterstrom received a Best New Play nomination from the Colorado Theatre Guild and garnered GLEASON the True West Award in 2014 for her direction and production design.

GLEASON received her BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University in Boulder, CO, where she focused on devising and directing original material under the tutelage of Tectonic Theatre Project.
