Tales from Spring Break Service Trips

CTUIR

Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Communications Director Chuck Sams III presents “A Native Perspective on American Indian History” to students and President Bridges.

Whitman Students from various majors and years joined together to spend one week of their break dedicated to service. This year the SEC launched two new trips, one to Detroit, Michigan and the other to the CTUIR near Mission, Oregon. We are excited to share stories so stay tuned for updates about their experience here.

Spring Break Job Shadow ProgramWhitties_Helping_Whitties

Many Whitman students took advantage of an opportunity to set up their own Job Shadow experiences over Spring Break with Alumni/ Whitman affiliate volunteers. The program was initiated by the SEC as another way to provide students with a chance to gain insights into internship, job, and career interests in the professional world outside of the college setting. If you did (or didn’t) participate in this program please consider taking this 2 minute survey about the new SEC program. Taking the survey will give you a chance to win one of twenty-five $10 gift certificates to either Sweet Basil’s Pizzeria or Graze.

Scott_Silver

Whitman in Tech

This year’s Sava and Danica Andjelkovic Endowed Lecture was fortunate enough to bring a dynamic sister-brother duo of Whitman graduates currently working in the technology sector. Stephanie and Scott Silver graduated in ’10 and ’05 respectively and worked in positions ranging from public broadcasting to the White House prior to finding their ways into the technology industry.

Stephanie Silver

Scott now works as a Ruby on Rails Developer at Square and Stephanie is a Project Manager at Dynamit. Are you interested in reaching out these two or other great alumni like them? Let us know and we can set you up with Whitman Connect – Whitman’s alumni database!
