Green Park Bilingual Family Fun Night

The Green Park Bilingual Program is reaching the end of a successful first year in the SEC. Over the past two semesters, 34 volunteers have contributed 500 hours of service to the bilingual classrooms at Green Park Elementary School. The responsibilities of the volunteers included acting as a safety net for students who need extra support by working one-on-one or with small groups over children in math, reading, writing, and science.

Additionally, their work extends beyond the classrooms. Recently, the Bilingual Program hosted a family fun night at Green Park Elementary School. The event served as the first celebration of bilingual education. The event also offered an opportunity for volunteers to connect with the families of Green Park.

After the performance, several activities were held in the gym. It was great to see so many volunteers having fun while interacting with the children and families.

This event also gave the program an opportunity to reach out to community partners involved in Hispanic culture. A big feature of the night was a traditional dance performance by Pioneer Ballet Folklorico.

Overall, the night was a huge success with 93 people in attendance. This would not have been possible without the support of many people. I would like to thank the Green Park teachers and staff, Pioneer Ballet Folklorico, SEC staff, Whitman Language Learning Center, and the Whitman volunteers. I look forwawrd to working with you all in the future.
