Kate Stoops ’24, Sociology major, shares about their remote internship at Three Rivers Legal Services

“Embarking on a remote legal internship with Three Rivers Legal Services has proven to be a remarkable and transformative opportunity, transcending traditional boundaries and embracing the modern realm of legal practice. The flexibility and convenience afforded by the remote setting have allowed for a seamless integration of my academic commitments with hands-on practical legal experiences, empowering me to strike a balance between learning and contributing to meaningful cases. Through the power of video conferencing and virtual collaboration, I have had the privilege of directly engaging with clients from diverse backgrounds, gaining invaluable insights into the complexities of their legal challenges and the profound impact of our advocacy. Within the organization’s nurturing and supportive team, attorneys and fellow interns readily share their expertise, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and collective growth. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to partake in a wealth of virtual workshops, webinars, and legal training  sessions, honing my research, writing, and analytical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the intricate legal processes. One of the most fulfilling aspects of this remote internship has been the chance to contribute to Three Rivers Legal Services’ mission of advancing social justice and equal access to legal representation for vulnerable communities. This sense of purpose and the knowledge that my work is making a meaningful difference has been truly unparalleled. As I continue on my journey to becoming a legal advocate for positive change in society, I will forever cherish the invaluable lessons and experiences gained during this remote legal internship, solidifying my commitment to making a lasting impact in the field of law.
