Angela Eliacy, Intern at Edulab Capital Partners (ECP)

Hello Everyone,

I am Angela Eliacy, an international student from Afghanistan. I am currently a rising junior  majoring in Economics and Politics. This summer, I have the opportunity to work as an intern  with Edulab Capital Partners (ECP), a Boston-based, early-stage venture capital fund that  invests in learning technology companies. ECP’s portfolio includes companies across the US,  Canada, and South East Asia. My journey with ECP began in January 2023 when I was  selected as one of the five Venture Capital Fellows. During the fellowship program, which lasted  one semester, we had weekly meetings with the ECP team to discuss various topics related to  investment and venture capital.

Through my fellowship with ECP, I secured this summer internship, which is generously funded  by the Whitman Internship Grant. A typical day at ECP starts with a 7 am team meeting, during  which we discuss our focus areas for the day and share any relevant news. I am fortunate to be  part of the weekly company meetings and calls, which have provided me with valuable insights into the daily workings of a venture capital company. Moreover, these experiences have  improved my communication skills and critical thinking, both of which are essential when  sourcing companies and meeting with startups.

Throughout the summer, I have been involved in various projects. I assisted in organizing the  2023 LatinX Summit in El Paso by gathering contact information from dozens of universities,  colleges, and schools and sending them invitations. Additionally, I contributed to designing  brochures and brainstormed panel questions. After the summit, I worked on a comprehensive  report evaluating the event’s achievements and providing suggestions for future summits.

Apart from other smaller projects, I have been focused on researching EdTech in a specific  country. This research involves gathering information about key stakeholders in the country and  government initiatives related to education and their implications for investors. This project has  honed my ability to critically analyze and synthesize information, enabling me to provide  valuable insights to ECP. I am excited to deliver the final presentation at the end of my  internship.

I was also featured in the ECP monthly newsletter where I got the opportunity to write about my experiences studying in different countries and can be accessed through this link if anyone was  interested.

My keen interest in research and market analysis during both my fellowship and internship with  ECP has fueled my curiosity in consulting and business analysis. I aspire to pursue these fields  in the future.
