Surviving Midterms in Budapest
Studying abroad in Budapest has been an incredible experience, filled with new friends, amazing food, and breathtaking sights. But as the leaves began to change color and the air grew crisp, I found myself facing a new challenge: midterm season at AIT-Budapest.
I’ll be honest, I was pretty nervous about my upcoming exams, especially my algorithms and data structure midterm. I mean, algorithms??? That’s some serious stuff! But later I realised I had nothing to worry about thanks to the amazing support system at AIT-Budapest.
First of all, the professors do an incredible job at offering extra office hours to help with any questions we have. They go above and beyond to make sure we understand the material, offering extra office hours and review sessions leading up to the exams. I took full advantage of these opportunities, asking my professors questions until I felt confident in my understanding of the course materials.
And then there are my classmates. We may come from all corners of the globe, but during midterm season, we were all in this together. We formed study groups, quizzed each other on important concepts, and even shared our favorite study snacks (shoutout to the Eliza who always brought homemade cookies!).
As the days before Spring Break came, I could sense the stress and anxiety at every AIT classroom. But thanks to all the hard work and support from my professors and classmates, I walked into that exam feeling prepared and confident and so did all my classmates.
Looking back, I realize that midterm season in Budapest wasn’t just about surviving exams. It was about coming together as a community, supporting one another, and discovering just how much we’re capable of when we put our minds to it. And for that, I’ll always be grateful to AIT-Budapest and the incredible people I’ve met here.
It’s worth noted that AIT plans their midterm season in between a long weekend( 15th of March is a national holiday in Hungary where all museums are free and everything else pretty much closes and so does AIT ), and Spring Break. This gives us enough time to study and also travel around and enjoy our time here.
The single and group study rooms, and the big lounge became a big social and study hub during midterm season and I think these places will remain marks of memories that are only made once but never forgotten. Memories of helping each other out, freaking out over a wrong answer, and encouraging each other to catch up on sleep.
P.S To the right you see my classmate studying at our favorite coffee shop in Budapest calledMon Cheri that is very student-friendly.Studying for the Hungarianmidterm was the biggest source of classmate bonding I have had
studying at the public library has held me accountable on my school work. Such a procrastination-free zone as you can see from the worried student faces in the picture 🙂
