Announcing our 2022 Fall Season!

HARPER JOY THEATRE 2022 FALL SEASON

They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay!

Written by Dario Fo and Franca Rame

Translated by Jon Laskin and Michael Aquilante

Directed by Christopher Petit

September 29 – October 2, 2022; Freimann Studio Theatre

With the price of groceries rising every day, what’s a poor girl to do? Stuff bags of food up her sweater and pretend to be pregnant, of course! Antonia is a woman on the edge, out of work, and out of money. When she gets mixed up in a riot at the supermarket, she seizes the opportunity to stock her empty cupboards. Farce, slapstick, and confusion beget new ways of understanding the world. They Don’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!, a fast and furious political farce about the plight of those in need tackles issues of inflation, unemployment, and human dignity.

bare – Written by Damon Intrabartolo and Jon Hartmere

Directed by guest artist Alex Higgin-Houser

Vocal Direction by Dr. Jessica Posada

November 10 – 13, 2022; Alexander Stage

A group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school faces issues of sexuality and personal identity. As they struggle to come to terms with who they are and who the world thinks they should be, they seek answers from their Church, their friends, and ultimately, from within themselves. Its rich, vibrant score draws on many styles of contemporary
music.

Studio Series – Performed by Sadiqua Iman, Mina Nishimura, and Christopher Williams

December 1 – 3, 2022; Freimann Studio Theater

The Studio Series is in its eighth year of bringing experimental performance to the Walla Walla Valley. The annual series hosts award-winning regional and national artists who reject the notion of tidy or distinct artistic disciplines. While the artists are in residence at Whitman College, they visit classes and host workshops in which they share creative processes and approaches. For the last three nights of their residencies, in the intimate Freimann Theater at Harper Joy Theater, each artist will perform a work followed by moderated discussions and Q&A. Each night is a different performance, so book tickets for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!
