Your Summer 2021 Newsletter

Dear Valued Community Partners and Friends,

This summer is buzzing by! We in the SEC hope you are staying cool and healthy as the heat drones on and the air quality is in it’s earlier-than-usual yearly flux.

Our Summer Whitman Internship Grant recipients are busy bees with their internships as well. We are happy to report that for the first time, 1/2 of this summer’s WIG cohort are all based in Walla Walla! From Mycology Business Assistant for Fungaia to Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless Shower Program Recruiter, we are grateful for the opportunities Whitman students have to be a part of the Walla Walla Valley Community through organizations like yours.

We are launching a new Career Coaching program for all First Year Whitties

The SEC is pleased to introduce a new Career Coaching program launching this Fall for all first year students that will build upon the SEC philosophy of having intentional, generative, forward-thinking conversations that connect a student’s academic and co-curricular pursuits to their post-Whitman trajectory. All Whitties in the incoming class of 2025 will be paired with a SEC staff member who will introduce them to the professional, community, and connective resources available via the Student Engagement Center.

The goals of this program work to coalesce professional development happening in all spheres of student life and experiences, eliminating the understanding that career development occurs as an enclosed process. Through reflection and connective resource introduction, student career and professional development occurs naturally as students join clubs & organizations, research for an essay, volunteer at organizations like yours, collaborate on class projects, build relationships across campus and the Walla Walla community, etc.

Whitman College COVID Protocol Updates

Public Access to Whitman’s Campus is Closed for the Summer

Whitman College remans committed to ensuring the safety of all those involved in our programming. As the college is projecting to operate this upcoming academic year as a “fully vaccinated campus”, this means that beginning August 1, 2021, all visiting community members must provide proof of vaccination and remain with a staff, faculty, or student for access to campus buildings.

For the rest of the 2021 summer, all public access to the campus is not allowed.
