Happy Spring! I still can’t believe I’m halfway through the semester and my time here in New Zealand (update: I started writing this a month ago but have been busy and unmotivated to write the rest, so here we are lol. As of now, I only have two weeks left of classes before finals!). I feel like I’ve done so much yet so little, and it’s hard to fit everything into just 4 ½ months. I know I just posted my first-month reflections a few weeks ago, but as I’m writing this, I am on a plane to Melbourne for our mid-semester break (which is the equivalent of spring break, and that just feels wrong because it’s August), so I thought I should update you. *Edit: I’m posting this a bit late (whoops), so my break is now over and I’m back in Dunedin.* It also feels wrong that I’m halfway through my semester, and y’all back at Whitman are starting your classes the same week (I hope you all had a fabulous first week of classes <3). As I’m sure all of you know, Australia and New Zealand recently co-hosted the FIFA Women’s World Cup. But fewer of you probably know that 6 of the many games were held here in Dunedin! Now, by no means am I claiming to be a soccer (or “football”) enthusiast, but when presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (for ordinary people, that is), I wasn’t going to pass it up. I didn’t even put two and two together that the World Cup and I would be in New Zealand at the same time until my grandma mentioned it to me. My grandma also so graciously offered to pay for me and a friend to go (thanks, Gma!). Continue reading

The City:
Dunedin is a relatively small city, but there is so much to do. I plan to make another post/page with recommendations for restaurants, cafes, activities, etc., so keep an eye out for that! Overall, it’s a fairly walkable city with pretty good public transportation, but if you want to explore the amazing nature and scenery outside the city, a car is pretty much your only option (lucky for me, one of my flatmates recently acquired a car!), so I’d highly recommend befriending someone with a car. There are, however, a few gorgeous hikes that start within walking distance from campus, and others are only a short drive away. Continue reading

Welcome to my blog from New Zealand! I arrived in Dunedin just over a month ago now, so a lot has already happened. I’ll try not to bore you with too many details, but I have so much to share! I’ll split my first-month reflections into two posts, so look out for another one coming soon :)
Travel Experience:
Oh boy, it was an experience for sure. Between United messing up my tickets, Air New Zealand losing one of my bags, and the shuttle to campus forgetting about us, to say it was stressful is an understatement. Continue reading
